Patients at Noble’s Hospital faced waits of more than 43 hours for a ward bed after a decision to admit, according to new freedom of information data.
The FOI request sought monthly average, median and longest waits from the point a clinician makes a “decision to admit” to the moment a patient is moved from the Emergency Department to a ward, covering 2024, 2025 and the first months of 2026.
Manx Care confirmed the measure reflects the number of minutes between the recorded decision‑to‑admit and the patient’s departure from ED to a ward, excluding those transferred elsewhere or taken directly to theatre.
The data shows significant variation month to month, with January 2026 recording an average wait of 422 minutes and a longest wait of 2,614 minutes, just over 43 hours.
Hospital Wait Times
In 2024, the total patient number was 6585, the average wait time was 230 minutes, with a median time of 104 minutes and a longest wait time of 2140 minutes (over 35 hours).
In 2025, the total patient number was 6733, the average wait time was 275 minutes, with a median time of 108 minutes and a longest wait time of 2711 minutes (over 45 hours).
In the first three months of 2026 (January to March), the total patient number was 1221, the average wait time of 435 minutes, with a median time of 202 minutes and a longest wait time of 2614 minutes (over 43 hours).
More than 14,500 patients were admitted from ED across the full period.
