The Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service has paid tribute to former Chief Fire Officer, Godfrey Cain.
In a statement on social media the service says it is with great sadness it announced the passing of Godfrey.
The statement reads:
“Godfrey began his fire service career with Oldham County Borough Fire Brigade in 1968, before returning home to join what was then the Isle of Man Fire Service.
Over the years, he built an exceptional career within the Fire & Rescue Service, eventually becoming Chief Fire Officer in 1993, a role he served with distinction for seven years until his retirement in 2000.
His influence on the Service remains evident to this day, particularly through advancements in vehicle design, equipment, and technology introduced during his tenure.
Even in retirement, Godfrey remained a passionate supporter of the Fire & Rescue Service, maintaining a keen interest in developments across the UK fire sector and staying closely connected with colleagues and the profession he cared so deeply about.
Our thoughts are with Godfrey’s family at this difficult time.
Funeral arrangements will be shared once confirmed.
