Firefighters Called to Blaze at Braddan Flats

Firefighters were called out to a blaze at a block of flats in Braddan today.

A spokesperson for the Fire Service said the call came at about 1pm today (Saturday) and three major appliances went out from Douglas fire station.

“On arrival, crews were met with a well-established fire within the kitchen of the affected property,” said the spokesperson.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus dealt with the blaze and checked neighbouring flats to ensure there was no spread of flames, or any other hazard.

All the residents in the block of flats had evacuated the building, having been alerted by the fire alarm system.

A positive pressure ventilation fan was used to clear the property.

The spokesperson added: “This incident highlights the importance of having working smoke and fire detection systems that are regularly tested and maintained.”
