Former Judge of Appeal Dies

Geoffrey Tattersall KC, who served for two decades as the island’s Judge of Appeal, has passed away aged 77.

He also served as Vicar General of Sodor and Man until 2019.

Originally from Lancashire, he rose through a legal career to be appointed as Deputy High Court Judge.

Serving as Judge of Appeal from 1997 to 2017, he was the last person to fulfil the role in a part-time capacity.

During his retirement speech, Mr Tattersall said he had developed a “love affair with this wonderful island”.

Jamie Hamilton KC, based in England, said: “I know that his wise counsel has assisted many fellow barristers, clients, members of chambers and many members of a variety of congregations.

“Our condolences to his many, many friends here on Circuit, in the Isle of Man and the Church. And of course to his family – his wife Hazel and children Mark, Victoria and Hannah.”
