Go-Ahead Given for Social Housing in Ramsey

Ramsey Commissioners have gained planning approval to build two new blocks of social housing flats in the town.
The commissioners’ scheme will develop a vacant brownfield site, with 30 new two-bedroom flats to be built across the former Albert Road School and Close Woirrey site.
Jasmine Eastwood, from McGarrigle Ayre, representing Ramsey Commissioners, said the development would help meet the housing needs of the town.
She added that the new site would be made more flood resistant than before. The scheme included plans for permeable paving and more grassed areas.
Concerns were raised about the amount of parking available in the flats, which had been reduced by 18 spaces.
However, the planning officer was happy with the reduction, due to the proximity of the bus station.
Ramsey Commissioners have the third longest wait list for housing, with 92 applicants. There are about 550 houses under the authority’s management.
The committee agreed the development would help clear the list and support the housing needs of the town.
It also said that social housing in general was much needed and it would have preferred a bigger development in Ramsey with more flats included in the plans.
