Huge congratulations to Lilee Fletcher-Merryweather who won the 1,000 metres race walk at the annual Molly Barnett race walking meeting held this year in Moulton, Northamptonshire.
Despite contending with blustery conditions Lilee clocked an excellent time of 5:05.97 to win the race by more than eight seconds.
This is a new personal best time and only about five seconds away from Lauren Whelan’s IOM U13 Girls record which was set 20 years ago.
She was up against a number of much older athletes including from the U17 and U18 age groups, and she beat them all!
Impressive Lilee
Lilee has been impressing for some time now, both with her speed and her race walking technique, and absolutely deserves her success today.
She has terrific future potential in race walking.
Neil Wade also had a great walk in the 10,000 metres race, clocking a new pb of 49:09.16 to finish in third place – and this was despite a one-minute timebox penalty. Erika Kelly was unfortunately disqualified from the race.
