Government Anger at Lack of Info from UK Probation

The government is demanding an explanation from UK authorities over why it was not told an individual who is under a life licence had moved here.

It follows online speculation this week that a man released after serving a life sentence for serious offences had come to the Isle of Man.

A government spokesperson said: “The Department of Home Affairs can confirm that it is aware of an individual subject to a life licence who has been living in the Isle of Man.

“The department and Isle of Man Constabulary would normally expect to be informed of such circumstances. However, in this case, no information was received from the relevant probation service in England.

“The department will be writing to HM Prison and Probation Service seeking an urgent explanation as to why the individual moved to the Isle of Man without the appropriate agencies here being notified.”

The spokesperson said once the DHA “became aware of the individual’s presence, relevant agencies took proactive steps to assess and manage any potential risks”.

They added: “Public protection comes first, and safeguarding the community must remain the overriding priority.”
