Governor Welcomes New Bard

His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor and Lady Lorimer attended the Inauguration of the 10th Manx Bard at Moorhouse Farm on Sunday (August 25).

Nestled out of the rain, amongst the hay bales and sheep, poets and guests gathered to celebrate Jordanne Kennaugh’s amazing achievement.

Jordanne, who originally hails from the south of the Island, impressed the judges with her enthusiasm for and her understanding of the power of poetry.

Her love of words and her love of the Island were evident in the poems submitted for the competition; one of the judges remarked on the fresh and authentic feel of her writing.

Team Bard

The event, which was organised by Team Bard, sponsored by the Isle of Man Arts Council and supported by Culture Vannin, is the highlight of the Manx poetry year.

Government House says “it was brilliant having the opportunity to hear hilarious dialect duologues, poetry recitations from young Manx Bards of the future and previous Manx Bards, along with some fantastic Manx songs”.

Despite the awful weather, His Excellency and Lady Lorimer had an enjoyable afternoon celebrating the Island’s talented poets.
