Figures released by the government show it spends significantly more with local suppliers than those in the UK.
The data, provided by Treasury Minister Dr Allinson, covers payments from the 2017/18 financial year up to November 10 2025.
It shows that in the last complete year, 2024/25, over £318 million was paid to Isle of Man companies, compared to £185 million to UK-based firms and £6 million elsewhere.
The proportion of local spending has remained consistently above 57% since 2017/18.
Notably this trend has accelerated with the on-island share rising to 62.3% in the 2024/25 financial year and reaching 65.5% for the current period to November 10.
Hey Big Spenders
The Department of Infrastructure and The Treasury are consistently among the largest spenders locally.
Manx Care, however, is the biggest spender in the UK, paying £87 million there in 2024/25.
The minister noted: “The data has been extracted from within the Government financial system and includes all suppliers (companies, partnerships, sole traders).
“It does not distinguish between revenue, capital or other spending.”
The summaries do not include the Isle of Man Post Office or Manx Utilities Authority, which use separate financial systems.
