The Cabinet Office says Isle of Man residents are being urged to follow UK travel health guidance to reduce the risk of methanol poisoning when travelling overseas.
In a written Tynwald answer, Minister David Ashford said Public Health directs travellers to advice from the UK Health Security Agency and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, which includes information on recognising symptoms of methanol poisoning and seeking urgent medical help if exposure is suspected.
Residents are advised to buy alcohol only from reputable licensed premises, avoid counterfeit or unlabelled drinks, and be cautious of unusually cheap alcohol.
Travellers are also reminded to reduce the risk of drink‑spiking by keeping drinks in sight, not accepting drinks from strangers, and staying aware of their surroundings.
Public Health will continue signposting people to authoritative travel‑health resources to help them make informed decisions before going abroad.
