The Great Laxey Mine Railway has received a grant from the Manx Lottery Trust’s Dormant Assets Fund to support a major renewal of track along the historic line.
The funding will allow the charity to purchase the materials needed to re‑lay the full length of the railway, helping safeguard one of the island’s key heritage attractions.
The project will also give volunteers the chance to develop traditional railway engineering skills while improving safety and long‑term sustainability.
Alasdair Campbell from the railway said the grant would ensure the line can continue operating and maintain its long‑standing connection with the Laxey community.
Manx Lottery Trust Chairman David Christian said the project protects an important part of the Island’s industrial heritage while creating opportunities for learning and involvement.
The railway has already secured support from several local organisations, including the Rotary Club of the Isle of Man, Laxey & Lonan Heritage Trust, the Elizabeth Clucas Trust, the Reverend Awdry Trust, private donors and its own reserves.
The Dormant Assets Fund grant helps the charity reach its overall funding target.
