A grass fire that flared up in Regaby this afternoon was stopped just short of homes, vehicles and oil tanks after firefighters moved quickly to contain it.
Just after 3pm, smoke was seen rising from a field beside a house. Ramsey crews reached the scene first and cut off the fire’s spread, with Laxey firefighters arriving moments later to reinforce the effort. Three jets were used to knock down the flames, and crews stayed on site to soak the ground to stop it sparking back up.
The blaze burned through dry grass at speed and came close to several hazards before being brought under control.
With conditions still bone‑dry, the Fire and Rescue Service is urging people to think carefully before lighting any outdoor fires. They say anyone planning one should notify the Emergency Services Joint Control Room, keep proper extinguishing equipment close by, never leave a fire unattended, and make sure it’s well away from fences, sheds and vegetation.
