A local gym has completed a comprehensive renovation of a school fitness suite, turning what it called “tired and dated” facilities into a modern training space for students.
Elite Fitness donated and installed its replaced equipment at St Ninian’s High School after a long-term member, head of PE Dom Winrow, highlighted the poor state of the gym.
“The decor and atmosphere was bland and stale, the machines were what the NSC had considered obsolete and had got rid of many years ago and quite a few no longer worked,” said an Elite Fitness post.
The project expanded far beyond the donated racks, barbells, and Olympic plates. The company funded a full redecoration, new rubber flooring, bespoke motivational artwork, and purchased new benches and a cable machine.

A unique solution was found for a lack of mirrors. “We came up with the idea of using one way mirrors window film with an additional layer of film to block the light from the sports hall to create the mirrored effect,” the company explained.
“The guys at Manx Tints came to install these for us and they make perfect mirrors for the students to check their form and ensure correct movements.”
The collaboration included a student-designed word cloud. Dom Winrow arranged for pupils to submit words describing what the new gym would mean to them.
“This started off as a gesture that grew into a passion project for us both,” Elite Fitness said.
The company added it wished Dom Winrow, the students, and teachers at St Ninian’s High School a “very Merry Christmas and a happy and now healthier new year”.
