It is proving difficult for the government to recruit lollipop men and women, with three attempts made to find someone for a southern primary.
Justice and Home Affairs Minister Jane Poole-Wilson was asked what efforts have been made to appoint a patrol for Rushen Primary School.
Responding to Juan Watterson SHK, Mrs Poole-Wilson said three attempts have been made to recruit for the crossing “but no applications have been received”.
She added: The Road Safety Team has assigned relief officers to cover the site upon availability but due to multiple vacancies across the Island, this is not always feasible.
“A zebra crossing is in place outside the school to ensure children’s safety, and police officers from the southern region of the Island conduct regular visits to the site.”
She added that the team is working with Human Resources to explore potential strategies for improvement recruitment which have proved “historically difficult to fill due to the limited weekly hours”.
