Government is launching an employment initiative this autumn which is aimed at assisting people aged 18-30 to re-enter the workforce.
‘Making Work Worthwhile’ aims to address the range of challenges faced by those who have been out of work for an extended period, from psychological readiness to career planning and skills development.
Local mental health charity Isle Listen has been commissioned to deliver key elements of the service alongside Treasury’s Social Security Division.
The pilot scheme will focus on 25 individuals over six months.
Employment
Programme objectives include:
- Assessing and addressing readiness for employment
- Developing essential workplace skills
- Providing ongoing support through therapy, coaching, mentorship and training
- Facilitating job search and placement
- Ensuring successful integration and retention in the workplace
Helping Re-Enter the Workplace
Participants will begin with a psychological evaluation to assess their readiness to return to work.
Ongoing support will be provided through individual therapy and bi-weekly group sessions, fostering mental wellbeing and peer connection.
Career coaching will include an initial assessment of skills and goals, followed by a personalised Individual Development Plan.
Regular mentoring will help participants stay on track and adapt their plans as needed.
Throughout the programme, Social Security Employment Officers will collaborate closely with Isle Listen to share resources and support work-focused appointments.
