Horse Tram Case to go to Treasury

The DoI is to put forward the business case for horse trams returning to the Sea Terminal later this year.

Tynwald has previously voted to restore the line along the prom, but plans were removed from the still controversial prom regeneration scheme.

Dr Michelle Haywood, the latest DoI Minister to be grilled on the horse trams, said her department “has been working on developing a design, project plan and business case for the reinstatement of a single line of the tram tracks to the Sea Terminal”.

She added: “The agreed business case will be submitted for consideration by Treasury before submission to Tynwald this year.”

A single track will, in the eyes of supporters, leave the system as a shadow of its former self and it has already been confirmed it will not be done in time for its 150th anniversary in 2026.

However, there remains talk that a future track could be used for a more modern commuter system.
