More than 20 Public Services Commission employees have been suspended on full pay over the last four years.
The data was revealed by the Chair of the Public Services Commission Rob Callister in response to written question from Onchan MHK Julie Edge.
The figures show there have been 23 instances of precautionary suspension since August 2021, at an estimated cost of £461,040.
In the answer, the Chair stated that “suspension is usually only considered, where there is no alternative, in cases where there has been a serious allegation.”
The Chair emphasised that “a precautionary suspension is not an indication of the outcome of an investigation and does not infer any wrongdoing or guilt”.
Ongoing
The majority of suspensions lasted three months or under, with ten cases in that category. Four suspensions lasted over twelve months, and a further four cases were listed as ongoing.
The suspended employees worked across various government departments, including DEFA, DHSC, and Manx Care.
All suspensions were under disciplinary procedures, with outcomes ranging from no case to answer to dismissal.
Mr Callister confirmed that “in the last four years there has been one case where there was a settlement agreement”, but noted that “it has not been possible to include the cost of the settlement as to do so would risk the disclosure of financial data about a specific employee”.
