The findings from a public consultation into the long-term funding of care on the island will be published in August.
Health and Social Care Minister Lawrie Hooper presented two options to Tynwald, which were then put to public prior to cost analysis and review of the current system was implemented.
Islanders were presented with two options, the “Scottish” and the “Jersey” models.
Under the Scottish model, personal care would provided to people at no charge, regardless of their income or assets and cover any care of a personal nature given at home or in a residential or nursing care home.
The Jersey model is based on a threshold and cap scheme, designed to protect the family home, this model would introduce a new benefit that covers care costs for those needing care, once costs have been paid up to a cap.
As the time of the consultation it was expected that the costs would range from £15.9m to £47.6m a year in the next two decades.
Responding too questions from Chris Thomas and Julie Edge, Mr Hooper said: “Detailed cost modelling, originally due to commence in January 2024 was delayed due to the cost of care exercise, however this work is now in-train and has the benefit of data derived from the cost of
care exercise and public consultation.
“The project is actively building options that could help address perverse financial incentives in order to test the implementation feasibility of either new model.
“The combination of these activities will result in a cost model that enables a more comprehensive understanding of the potential costs and benefits associated with either new model.”
