Huge Redevelopment Set For Liverpool Waterfront

Liverpool City Region has launched a consultation on plans to create a Mayoral Development Corporation (MDC) for the North Docks.

The waterfront zone includes the area where the Isle of Man’s Liverpool ferry terminal is located, a project widely reported as costing around £100 million.

The Combined Authority says the MDC would bring together planning, land assembly and infrastructure powers to speed up regeneration across the northern stretch of the Mersey, aiming to create a “vibrant new waterfront neighbourhood”.

The proposals outline potential delivery of up to 17,000 new homes, new commercial and employment space, high‑quality parks and green areas, and modern community and cultural facilities.

Under the plans, the MDC could take on powers including land assembly and Compulsory Purchase Orders, planning control for major developments, and responsibility for delivering roads, transport links and utilities.

The consultation asks for views on the name, the boundary, and the range of powers the MDC should hold. It is the first step in deciding whether the new development body will be formally established.

The consultation can be found here.
