Over 200 cancer patients a year will benefit from a new machine that has been donated to Manx Care’s urology department.
Thanks to a donation of a Trans Perineal Prostate Biopsy USS/MRS Fusion Machine Nobles is now on a par with the most advanced Urology centres in the world.
Mannin Cancers Support Group made the donation of the machine to the health care provider earlier this month.
The machine will have a ‘significant impact’ on the quality of services available to prostate cancer patients.
Donation of Machine
The machine will allow the Manx Care team to pinpoint cancerous lesions, therefore making it easier to locate the site from which to take a biopsy.
In addition, the Tevir Group have sponsored three years of maintenance on the equipment.
The machine was tested and formal training was delivered before an inauguration ceremony last week at Noble’s Hospital, and the service began on July 3.
It is already working well, and it is expected that over 200 patients a year will benefit from this development.

Julie Stokes, Chairman of Mannin Cancers Support Group, added “We would like to thank everyone who’s made being able to purchase this fabulous piece of equipment possible.
“The cost of this equipment was just under £180,000, which would not have been possible without the help of the Tevir Group who have funded three years’ maintenance costs.
“Having this equipment on Island will save many patients from having to travel to the UK for the diagnosis and staging of Prostate Cancer. It will benefit over 200 patients every year on our Island. Thanks to Mr Baher Hussein (Consultant Urologist), his team and Manx Care for all their help.”
