The Isle of Man Arts Council says it is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of acclaimed Manx artist and sculptor Bryan Kneale MBE RA at the age of 95.
A founding member of the Isle of Man Arts Council in 1965, his work, exhibited across the world, placed Manx creativity on the international stage and inspired generations of artists at home and abroad.
An Arts Council spokesperson said: “As a painter, teacher, and above all, as a pioneering sculptor, Bryan’s influence can be seen across the Island’s creative landscape.
“His commitment to supporting and nurturing the arts has shaped the Isle of Man Arts Council from its very beginning.”
Eelips
Brian’s death comes just weeks before his Eelips statue is set to be unveiled at the Tynwald National Park and Arboretum next month
His family said: “Eelips is the fruition of an ambitious vision developed in 2022 when Bryan returned to making sculpture after several years of painting, where he began his creative life.
“He desired to create a sculpture that would work in the mountainous Manx landscape that inspired both him and his brother, Nigel Kneale.”
The Arts Council added: “We send our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who admired his extraordinary work.”
