The potential for Artificial Intelligence (AI) to drive innovation within the island’s maritime sector was explored at an international conference in Douglas this week.
Organised by Isle of Man Maritime and supported by Ellanstone Ltd, the event attracted delegates from the Isle of Man, UK, and The Netherlands, including academia and industry specialists.
A key presentation focused on the ‘AI Passport’ project, a UK collaboration developing automated safety and rescue solutions.
Lee Clarke, Managing Director of Isle of Man Maritime, said: “The Isle of Man occupies a globally unique position in maritime innovation.
“What was particularly encouraging from the conference was the overwhelming consensus around collaboration, cooperation, and communication. These themes came through strongly from delegates across industry, academia and government.”
Brendon Kenny, Director of Ellanstone Ltd, added: “Through the AI Passport project we have the opportunity to position the Island as a global Living Lab for maritime safety and security.
“This approach strongly aligns with the Island’s UNESCO Biosphere status, where innovation must balance economic progress with environmental stewardship and social responsibility.”
Isle of Man Maritime has announced its next conference will be held at The Comis Hotel on July 16, with ticket details released in March via maritime.im and its social media channels.
