The island has been engaged in discussions between the UK and EU on food exports and fisheries, the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture (DEFA) has confirmed.
The talks follow a recent agreement to strengthen trade and cooperation between the UK and EU.
DEFA Chief Officer Scott Gallacher told a Tynwald committee: “Our colleagues in Cabinet Office in terms of External Relations take the lead on that.
“But any engagement between the UK and the EU on food matters, or sanitary and phytosanitary matters, or any biosecurity stuff, we do, we are involved.
“We have line of sight, and all of our engagement is working with our colleagues in Cabinet Office to make sure that the Isle of Man’s interests are best represented.”
He added: “We obviously look forward to whatever changes and gains and benefits that are going to flow in for the UK off the back of this, that we will be working with our colleagues in the UK to make sure that we can see the benefits too.”
Competitive
The discussions come amid broader negotiations on post-Brexit trade arrangements, with the Isle of Man seeking to ensure its seafood and agricultural sectors remain competitive.
Environment Minister Clare Barber highlighted the importance of collaboration, saying: “We’ve been doing a lot of work in the background around the replacement for the energy efficiency scheme, and obviously that then plays into the things we’d like to see delivered in the next year.”
