The Isle of Man Constabulary has confirmed it has dismissed an officer without notice following a special case misconduct hearing.
Former sergeant Richard Cretney pleaded guilty last month to knowingly or recklesslessy disclosing personal data without consent, in breach of the force’s GDPR regulations.
The misconduct hearing concluded last week and considered evidence relating to his conduct, finding that standards of professional behaviour had been breached.
Superintendent Dave Dobbie, of the Professional Standards Department, said: “Police officers occupy a position of trust and the public is entitled to expect the highest standards of conduct from them.
“This case demonstrates that where an officer fails to meet those standards, the Constabulary will take appropriate action. Allegations of misconduct will be dealt with promptly, fairly and transparently, with due process followed throughout.”
He acknowledged the “professionalism and determination of the officers” who investigated both the criminal case and the conduct case.
“Their work has helped ensure accountability and maintain the standards expected of the Isle of Man Constabulary. Conduct that undermines the standards of our organisation and the confidence placed in us by the public will not be tolerated.”
