A kitchen fire in Castletown early this morning left a home heavily smoke‑logged, with neighbours raising the alarm after hearing a sounding smoke detector.
Crews from Castletown and Rushen stations were called at 3:20am and found thick smoke throughout the property.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze, ventilated the home and made it safe for the occupants to return.
The Fire and Rescue Service says the incident underlines the need to never leave cooking unattended and to ensure working smoke alarms are fitted.
In this case, the alarm alerted neighbours and helped ensure the occupants were warned.
