KLB: I’ll Vote Against Area Plan

Kate Lord-Brennan MHK

The former cabinet minister says she will vote against the proposed Area Plan for North and West.

Glenfaba and Peel MHK Kate Lord-Brennan has spoken out against the plan and its proposal to zone greenfield land for development.

Ms Lord Brennan outlined to her constituents about the proposed development of greenfield sites on the outskirts of Peel, running from Douglas Road to the Ramsey road.

She has also opposed what she calls a “pointless new road”.

Never Allocated

Ms Lord-Brennan said: “To remind everyone, these lands were never allocated for housing in the original draft plan proposed by Cabinet Office – they were added following representations/submissions from landowners, developers and Peel Town Commissioners, through earlier formal consultation responses.

“These parties were all represented by the same planning consultant (as those attending the Inquiry will know and could see).”

Calling on residents to respond to the public consultation on the plan, she said it is “important that as many people as possible respond”.

Vote No

She added: “When I finally have the chance for a political vote on this in Tynwald, I clearly will not be supporting the Area Plan for the North and West and will be advocating against and representing against, but it is an “all or nothing” vote for the whole area plan (the process for all this is set out in legislation from years ago).

“If people have specific queries, they can contact me (on a constituency level) or the planning policy team at Cabinet Office regarding specific queries of detail / anything related to the consultation.”
