Labour Leader to Seek Reelection

Douglas East MHK and Manx Labour Party leader Joney Faragher has announced she will stand for re-election in the General Election.

IMs Faragher described serving the community as “one of the greatest honours of my life”.

The MHK, first elected in 2021, highlighted work on inclusive education, healthcare, family services, housing, and period poverty. She also noted efforts to protect vital community services in Douglas East.

“Along the way, I’ve met so many fab people – families, young people, pensioners, volunteers, business owners, carers, teachers, community groups, the list goes on and on – whose ideas, concerns, and determination have shaped the work I do every day,” she said.

Ms Faragher acknowledged continuing challenges, saying: “We continue to face challenges around housing, healthcare, the cost of living, and ensuring that every person has the opportunity to thrive. Alongside this, public trust in political institutions seems to be at an all-time low.”

She added: “These issues can’t be solved overnight, but I believe they can be tackled through collaboration, practical solutions, and a willingness to listen to the people most affected.”

Ms Faragher is the first candidate to declare for Douglas East, her constituency colleague Clare Barber has yet to declare her intentions.
