Lady Lorimer Opens Dippers Shelter

On a beautifully sunny winter’s day, Lady Lorimer was invited to officially open the Ramsey South Beach Shelter.

The Shelter was the idea of the Northern Dippers swimming group, who noted the number of people who regularly used the South Shore and Queens Promenade.

Towards the end of 2021 the Northern Dippers approached Ramsey Town Commissioners to discuss the possibility of building a Shelter.

The project was agreed and work commenced on April 19, with RTC agreeing to contribute £4,500.

This meant that the Dippers had to fund the majority of the build costs themselves, which they did, with the support of the island’s community.

The work has been carried out by RTC staff and local tradespeople.

However, the Northern Dippers have helped with painting and supplying building materials.

At the opening, many local people joined the Chair of Ramsey Town Commissioners, the Northern Dippers and the Star Shanty Singers to watch Lady Lorimer, as she cut the ribbon to officially declare the Shelter open.
