Expired License Costs Driver

A man who didn’t realise his driving license had expired has been fined £200 by magistrates.

Ryan Stevens appeared before the court on Thursday, pleading guilty to driving with no license.

Prosecutors said police followed a car that travelled quickly through the Quarterbridge Roundabout at about 9:10pm on February 24.

When officers stopped the 28-year-old Peel man at Union Mills he was unable to provide his documents and was ordered to bring them to a police station.

However, when he produced his license at Peel police station, it was found to have expired in October 2023.

Duty advocate James Peterson said it had been an “unfortunate case of oversight” as he neglected to renew his license.

He also offered his client’s apologies to the court.

Magistrates fined him £200 and ordered him to pay £50 costs.

A separate charge of driving without insurance was withdrawn by the prosecution.
