The Royal British Legion Onchan Branch has announced the passing of John ‘Jock’ Galt.
He died peacefully on October 8, just two days after celebrating his 102nd birthday with the Lieutenant Governor and his family.
Mr Galt was one of the last surviving participants of Operation Pedestal, the critical Second World War convoy to relieve Malta.
He served aboard HMS Indomitable, surviving a bombing that killed 46 crew members and wounded 70. His bravery contributed to a pivotal Allied mission.

After training at HMS Valkyrie on the Isle of Man, he served with distinction globally. He remained deeply connected to his roots and was proud of his service.
A spokesperson for the Onchan Branch said: “Although Jock wasn’t a member of the Onchan Branch, he was known throughout the island by many of the ex service community. T
“hank you for your service and dedication.”
Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
