Minister for the Cabinet Office has says a review shows no evidence to suggest legislation is not protecting vulnerable energy customers.
David Ashford MHK explained the recent review into the Gas Regulation (Prevention of Disconnections) Order 2024 in the House of Keys.
The review does acknowledge that the Order has not been in operation for a full winter period, which means evidence was limited.
The Order was introduced in January 2024 and protects vulnerable people from disconnection for non-payment of gas bills between October 1 and March 31.
Protecting Vulnerable Customers
The Minister said: “More will be done. There will be ongoing engagement with key stakeholders over the winter period; the first full winter the Order will have been in operation.
“Monitoring impact will ensure that the Order is effective, so should any evidence arise we are alert to this and can consider whether a review of the scope of the Order is required.”
