As the Isle of Man gears up for what promises to be a crucial General Election on September 24, the headlines are dominated by those vying to lead our proud nation forward.
But amid the Constitutional chaos, what remains for those in need of a lighter form of entertainment? One which swaps door-knocking for shot-stopping, and where a dropped ball doesn’t simply refer to stumbling over policy.
Fear not, as Manx.News take a look at the sporting spectacles ahead, and tell you where to turn your attention when the bright lights of our Vote 2026 debates get a little too much to bear.
National Politics National Championships
Cycling’s TLI National Championships will return to the island for the first time since 2022, with three races being held over the course of a bumper weekend.
Riders will contest an open roads time trial event on Saturday morning (September 12), taking on a 10-mile out-and-back route around the village of St. Marks. In the afternoon, a closed roads contest around the brutal Stughaddoo circuit lies in wait as the riders vie to don the famous tricolour jersey.
Sunday (September 13) marks the finale, with a blockbuster Douglas town centre criterium set to bring proceedings to a close. The race will, again, be on fully closed roads, and you can find details of these closures here.
Manx professional cyclist for EF Education-Easypost, Max Walker, won the road race title last time it was held here, before going on to compete in his debut Tour de France this year.
Tight at The Top
The early running in the Canada Life Premier league title fight has been a tale of two titans, with Peel and Corinthians sitting joint on points at the top of the tree. Peel remain narrowly clear by virtue of goal difference, having not conceded across their opening three games.
Both sides have made unbeaten starts to the 2026-27 campaign, and will expect to continue that form this weekend. Peel face a trip to mid table Onchan, while Corinthians will travel to Laxey, who’ve endured a dismal start to their season.
Arguably, the story of the round is being played out at the Bowl as St. Marys host a lacklustre RYCOB still searching for their first point. St. Johns, meanwhile, play Braddan and will claim third spot if they can continue their own perfect record.

New in Netball…
The 2026/27 Manx netball campaign roars into life on Sunday, with a packed schedule of fixtures being played between the NSC and Bemahague venues.
A ruthless Simcocks Red side lifted the Premiership Division One last time out, having lost just once all season, and will be hoping to make a winning start to their title defence against Castletown Falcons. The various iterations of Simcocks won all bar one of the leagues they competed in last term, further cementing themselves as the dominant force in Manx netball.
The Ballasalla Falcons might’ve felt a shade hard done by last season, having to settle for second place despite scoring over 100 more points than their table-topping rivals, but have a chance to get off to a flyer as they play a Route 1 Connections side that struggled for much of 2025/26.

It’s a Hell of a Stomp!
After a four week hiatus, athletics returns with two fixtures taking place on the same day; the 39 mile End to End Walk, courtesy of MFX Ltd. will get underway at the Point of Ayre at 8am, while the Spirit of Axnfell run starts at the Bungalow at 10:30am.
The fell race marks one of the longest and toughest on the Manx calendar, taking in 31km of undulating Manx scenery, while the End to End Walk sees athletes hug the west coast of the island before finishing at the Sound.
Parish Walk winner and record holder, Callum Gawne, is absent with injury this year, leaving the door wide open for reigning champion Simon Gawne (unrelated) to scoop back-to-back titles in the long distance walk. The record for the course stands at 6hrs 11mins 23secs, set by London 2012 Olympian Dominic King in 2022, a day where Gawne himself finished second.
Horsing Around
In the wake of local superstar Yasmin Ingham’s impressive sixth place at Defender Burghley Horse Trials, Kennaa Equestrian Centre plays host to the opening gambit of the Arena Eventing Series, supported by Voltaire Design.
This is the first round of five, and will see riders and mounts take on a combined show jumping and cross-country contest. The winner will be the pair who accrues the least number of penalties for disobedience or knocking down obstacles, with a host of prizes on offer at the end of the series. Classes are available from complete beginner up to senior categories.
