Ramsey RNLI volunteers’ training turned into a real-life incident this morning as they were called out to aid a kayaker in difficulty.
Having completed their regular training exercise on Sunday morning the Anne and James Ritchie II was mid recovery when the request was received from Belfast Coastguard.
The crew relaunched the boat and made rapid progress towards Rue Point near Jurby.
Upon arrival on scene a mobile Coastguard unit from Ramsey assisted in directing the lifeboat towards the kayak which was just over a mile offshore driven by an increasingly fresh breeze.
The casualty and kayak were recovered safely to the lifeboat and after ensuring that nobody else was in the water they were taken to Ramsey to be reunited with the second member of the party who had raised the alarm after becoming concerned.
