Ramsey RNLI volunteers went to the aid of a lone yachtsman who dislocated his shoulder approximately 2.5 miles from Douglas Harbour.
The call went out at 3.55pm on Friday afternoon.
The volunteer crew of the all-weather RNLB Ann and James Ritchie 2, under the command of Coxswain Mark Kenyon, launched at 4:10pm and reached the yacht by 4:45pm.
Two crewmen from Ramsey Lifeboat were transferred to the yacht to assess the condition of the casualty and he was found to be in considerable pain from a dislocated shoulder.
Rather than transfer the casualty to Ramsey Lifeboat the RNLI crew remained on the yacht and made best speed to Douglas Harbour under escort from the lifeboat.
Coxswain Mark Kenyon said: “Having only last week revalidated our casualty care certificates it was a great opportunity to put the skills and equipment to the test.
“The ability to provide pain relief to the casualty and also ensure that his vessel was returned safely to harbour called upon many of the skills which we regularly train in and we hope the casualty makes a full recovery following his unfortunate injury.”
