Liverpool’s annual tractor run which was inspired by the event run on the island, has been cancelled indefinitely.
Unlikely on the island, where the Police have supported the Young Farmers’ event each year, Merseyside Police do not support the event, which has been a reason behind its cancellation.
Organiser Olly Harrison said: “Bit of bad news for the people of Liverpool.” He confirmed: “Sadly, there won’t be one this year. It’s not going to be possible to hold it.”
The Liverpool Echo said Harrison has said that any future running would be reliant on support from Liverpool’s council, but this seems unlikely.
Onus
He explained the decision, stating: “The onus seems to be on me now for the crowds it generates and if anything was to go wrong it would be me that would end up in prison.”
He added: “The numbers it generates at Alder Hey are huge as well so we can’t risk anything going wrong.”
The fundraiser, which started in 2020, has raised more than £300,000 for Alder Hey Children’s Charity.
Harrison said: “Thank you for everyone that’s been out over the years and yeah, watch this space if it does ever happen again. Yeah, sad times.”
On the island, the Isle of Man Young Farmers will stage their two runs across a weekend in December.
The southern route will be on Saturday December 6, with the big route taking place on Sunday December 7.
Tractors will also be on display in Strand Street, Douglas on Thursday, December 4.
