The family of the late Lucas Martin has opened a new cocktail bar in Douglas, Looky’s Lounge Bar, in their son’s honour.
The 21-year-old died in September 2023 after contracting meningitis.
Manx.News spoke to Lucas’ father, Brett, who explained how there are many references to ‘Looky’ in the bar:
Looky’s Lounge Bar is nestled in the Best Western Palace Hotel and Casino and is in the area that many of us will remember as the Star Wars bar or piano bar, although its new form is completely unrecognisable.
Looky’s Lounge Bar
The bar is a new concept for the Isle of Man where Manx meets Manhattan and the vibe is ‘cool all day long’.
During the day, the bar aims to serve as a sanctuary for a quiet coffee after the gym, a leisurely lunch or an informal business meeting.
In the evenings and at weekends, it transforms into an atmospheric bar with live music and live sports screens plus easy access to the Casino.
The bar will open to the public this Friday (May 24).
Looky’s Aid
In memory of Lucas, his family set up Looky’s Aid with the mission of unlocking the potential of young people, particularly those who are underprivileged, ill, or disabled.
They believe that every young person deserves the opportunity to live a life filled with love, hope, ambition, determination, and the joy of helping others.
It’s initiatives are designed to provide support, education, and experiences that empower young individuals to overcome challenges and achieve their full potential.
The family say Lucas was a firm believer in the potential of every individual, especially young people, to make a positive impact in the world.
They are determined that this will not be the end of Lucas’s story.
