Maisy’s Fell Flyer

While many athletes were running marathons one of our promising youngsters Maisy-Jo Faragher was climbing hills in the Lake District.

Maisy was contesting the opening round of the English Junior Fell Running Championships, which were held at Seathwaite in the Duddon Valley.

In her first year in the U13 age group, Maisy finished in a superb seventh place in a field of 31 runners on a very testing course of 2.9 kilometres which was wet, boggy and stony, and included six stream crossings.

In the words of Maisy’s mum Susie, the course was ‘not for snowflakes’ and there were a lot of fallers – but Maisy managed to finish the race as one of the cleaner competitors and with a big smile on her face!

All six girls ahead of her were in the upper year of the age group.

There are six rounds in the series with a minimum of four finishes required to count, and Maisy plans to do four.

Her next race will be at Sedburgh on May 18, and she can go into that race with a lot of confidence after her excellent performance on Sunday (April 27).
