An international cybercrime investigation will be among the headline features at the 2026 Countering Financial Crime Conference later this month.
Officers from the US Treasury are set to outline the operation that led to major sanctions against a transnational criminal network.
The conference takes place at the Villa Marina on August 12, where the island’s business community will also hear from the UK National Crime Agency about Operation Atlantic, which targets online investment fraud known as ‘pig butchering’.
Further sessions will cover illicit financing and the movement of Russian wealth, led by Transparency International, while the Basel Institute on Governance will explain the role of its AML Country Lists. HMRC representatives have been invited to discuss the department’s whistleblower reward scheme, modelled on the US IRS programme.
Other speakers will address emerging financial crime threats, the Isle of Man’s National Risk Assessment and preparations for the upcoming MONEYVAL evaluation, with a panel session open for audience questions.
David Baker, Senior Manager in the Authority’s AML/CFT Supervision Division, said the conference will offer valuable insight into global efforts to combat organised financial crime and strengthen the island’s defences.
