A section of Governors Road in Onchan will be closed or open one way for a week starting Sunday.
The DoI’s paver team is to resurface Corkills Roundabout and the section of Governors Road directly in front of the village garage and the parade of shops opposite.
For the duration of the works the junction of Summerhill and Governors Road will be closed to through traffic.
Phase 1
The road between the end of Governors Road, the end of Summerhill Road and the junction with Kelvin Road (at side of Onchan Post Office) will be closed to all vehicular traffic from 7am until 11pm on Sunday July 14 at the latest.
It is hoped that should work go as planned, the team will transition to phase 2 by early evening.
For the duration of the closure the junction between Main Road, Onchan and Victoria Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic. The one way order on Victoria Avenue will be suspended allowing residents to enter and leave Victoria Avenue from Mount View Road. Victoria Avenue will revert to one way with access from Main Road, Onchan during phase 2.
Corkills Garage shop will remain open and accessible to pedestrians, but will be closed for fuel sales and there will be no vehicular access to the forecourt.
Phase 2
As soon as phase 1 is complete or in any case by 11pm on Sunday July 14, until 7am on Sunday July 21 Governors Road will be made one way northbound (towards Laxey) between the junction with Queens Road and Avondale Road.
Corkills Garage (forecourt and shop sales), Karsons Pharmacy and Animal Ark Doggy Day Care will be open as usual and accessible to vehicles from the south (Douglas direction) at all times during phase 2.
Phase 3
The road between the end of Governors Road, the end of Summerhill Road and the junction with Kelvin Road will again close to all traffic from 7am until no later than 11pm on Sunday July 21.
For the duration of the closure the junction between Main Road, Onchan and Victoria Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic. The one way order on Victoria Avenue will be suspended allowing residents to enter and leave Victoria Avenue from Mount View Road. It is anticipated that works will be completed by early evening, but allowance has been made for unforeseen circumstances arising.

Diversions
A signed diversion route from Avondale Road (Manx Arms), Sign Post Corner, Governors Bridge will be in place throughout. This will extend to Governors Road during phase 2 (one way period). Surfacing work to improve the carriageway at the bottom of Avondale Road has been completed ahead of these works.
Traffic coming from the north of the island via the Laxey Coast Road can either divert via King Edward Road (at Liverpool Arms) or follow the signed diversion route.
