Man Fined for Being Drunk and Disorderly

A man has been fined £400 after pleading guilty to being drunk and disorderly in public.

Kevin Murphy, 43, from Douglas, appeared before magistrates on Thursday.

On May 30 police in Douglas were searching for a male on an unrelated matter near the Manx Museum when they found Murphy, who they thought matched the other man’s description, sat on the steps of the Chester Street car park.

He was searched by officers and was said to be drunk and swearing.

As police walked away from him, Murphy was said to call them “f*****g idiots” which led to them arrested him.

His advocate said Murphy accepted the charge, but noted he had not been physically abusive to the officers and was on the “lower end of the spectrum for this kind of offence”.

Magistrates fined him £400 and ordered him to pay £125 costs.
