Manx Care has begun its spring vaccination programmes for COVID‑19 and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), targeting those most at risk of serious respiratory illness.
Both viruses typically cause mild symptoms but can lead to severe complications in older adults, people with weakened immune systems and very young babies.
The health service says vaccination remains the most effective way to reduce the risk of hospitalisation.
This spring’s COVID‑19 booster is being offered to people aged 75 and over, care‑home residents, and anyone aged six months or older with a weakened immune system.
Vaccination Drive
Eligible individuals will be invited for appointments between April and July, with updated vaccines used to boost protection against recent variants.
The RSV programme includes routine vaccination for over‑75s and care‑home residents, along with a dose for pregnant women from 28 weeks to help protect newborns in their first months of life.
Adults registered with the vaccination service will receive direct invitations, while pregnant women will be advised by their midwives. Some people may be offered both vaccines at the same appointment.
Manx Care says delivering the two programmes together will help reduce serious illness and ease pressure on health services during periods of higher respiratory infection risk.
