Manx Care has reported significant improvements in workforce planning and consultant job planning, leading to better retention and reduced reliance on temporary staff.
Chief Executive Theresa Cope stated that the appointment of a substantive Medical Director and Executive Director of People has been instrumental.
“I feel it’s progressing really well,” she said, referring to job plan adherence. “We have got robust processes in place.”
She was speaking at a session of the Social Affairs Policy Review Committee.
Planning
Part of this success has been driven by changes to how Manx Care plans future jobs and workforces.
Ms Cope said: “We do anticipate that over a longer period of time, we will strengthen our workforce planning, but also the savings, we have been able to see a reduction of bank and agency use from the recruitment of substantive staff and more effective job planning.”
Recruitment success was also highlighted, with Ms Cope telling the committee: “We do tend to be able to recruit most of the posts that we advertise.”
Since Manx Care’s inception, the vacancy rate has fallen by around 10% and the staff attrition rate is now reported as being 8.6%.
Despite this progress, Ms Cope acknowledged “there is still a long way to go”.
