Finch Hill cricketer Lucy Barnett has been nominated by the International Cricket Council for August’s Women’s Player of the Month, after a series of stunning performances for the Isle of Man at the recent Women’s Continental Cup.
The Manxwoman shone in an impressive team display which saw her side reach the final of the competition, before losing to Türkiye by five wickets. Individually, the 19-year-old’s glittering performances throughout the tournament earned her the event’s ‘Most Valuable Player’ award.
Barnett wasted no time in finding her rhythm in the first group stage game against Romania, delivering a score of 71 as the Isle of Man easily chased down the total. After a minor blip against Greece, she bounced back emphatically, producing a scintillating innings in which she scored 123 runs from just 64 deliveries to cruise past Norway and help the Manx side top the group.
She led the charge in the losing final performance too; a strong knock of 59 ensured that she ended the tournament as the leading run-scorer, with a blistering strike rate of 178.47. With the ball, the all-rounder claimed four wickets across the course of the event.
This came after she’d previously written her name into the record books as the youngest player ever to reach 1,000 Women’s T20 International runs.
