Manx Learners Publish Short Story Collection

A group of Manx language learners have published a new collection of short stories as part of Blein ny Gaelgey, the Year of the Manx Language 2026.

Cooinaghtyn Noa (New Reminiscences) features 12 stories written by members of Gaelgeyryn ec Greens, a group that meets weekly at Greens Café in St John’s to learn, read and speak Manx together.

The book brings together personal stories from contributors, covering subjects ranging from life on the Isle of Man to experiences abroad. The project was supported through Culture Vannin’s Year of the Manx Language grants programme.

Co-ordinators Anita Cashen and Angela Little said the idea grew from the group’s regular meetings and hoped the collection would prove “useful, engaging and enjoyable” for other Manx learners.

Culture Vannin said the publication provides a valuable new resource for the growing number of people learning the language, with more than 200 adults taking part in Manx classes each week.

The book is available for £5 from Greens Café and other stockists across the island.
