Mark Qualifies as Shore Crew

Peel lifeboat volunteer, Mark, has qualified as shore crew after months of preparation.

It was a busy week for the station’s volunteers with training on Wednesday and Thursday.

Wednesday was focused on Mark’s assessment as shore crew, while the crew afloat continued its training in navigation, establishing and following search patterns and helming on an evening with winds blowing at force five to six.

The station said: “Looking to the future, Mark hopes to embark on the training programme necessary to become crew aboard the lifeboat.

“Thursday’s training afloat was a thorough lesson on what steps to take if there were a fire aboard the lifeboat. The scenario started with a small fire on the engine room, then advanced to a full engine fire.

“The training session progressed to discussions on how to abandon ship safely.”

To be prepared for any emergency, our volunteer crew, both on shore and afloat, learn, train, are assessed, and keep training.
