Mary the seal released back in the wild

Mary, a seal that was rescued in October, has been released back into the wild by Manx Wildlife Trust (MWT).

The Atlantic Grey Seal was reported by a member of the public last year, and after an assessment she was rescued by Manx Wildlife Trust’s trained volunteer Marine Mammal Medics.

She was then kept at its Seal Rehabilitation Centre in the north of the Island.

Fish was donated by the public and she went from strength to strength until the organisation knew it was time to send her back to where she belongs – our Manx waters.

Having gained enough weight and strength she was released back into the wild.

Mary made no fuss and headed straight out the crate and into the sea.

Seal sitters

Manx Wildlife Trust’s volunteer Seal Sitters and Marine Stranding team, are vital in its work to protect seals.

Its Seal Sitters monitor seals that rest up on public beaches, assessing whether they’re healthy and making sure that they aren’t disturbed by people.

The Marine Strandings team go out to reported strandings to take biological measurements and photos. This is vital work for marine conservation.
