The Mayor of Douglas awarded members of Riding For The Disabled with rosettes following their success at the Virtual National Championships.
Members of the charity were invited by Councillor Natalie Byron-Teare to Douglas City Hall for a presentation last night (March 19).
The presentation saw family, volunteers, and members of the Manx Horse Council and IOM Sport gather to celebrate the riders.
Virtual National Championships
The Virtual National Championships is the most inclusive equestrian event of it’s kind and had 274 participants from all over the RDA network.
Most of the competitors from the island had never competed before and to be able to ride on their regular horses in familiar territory made the world of difference.

The Coaching Team at RDA said: “We could not be prouder of what our riders have achieved.
“For our first ever entry and with such a large number of participants we can’t quite believe it – although we never have any doubt in our guys abilities – the sky is the limit!
“Rose and her team at the Guilcagh stables made the horses shine for the riders and we are so grateful for their ongoing support.”

Jackie Turnbull, Chair of RDA Isle of Man said: “Being able to enter such an inclusive competition, with the support of the Manx Horse Council and IOM sport, is something truly magnificent.
“Having the Mayor present the riders with their rosettes is the icing on the cake!”
Fundraising
Riding for the Disabled is launching a new fundraising pack to help the general public support them by doing whatever they can do.
From sponsored walks to silences, bake sales to climbing Kilimanjaro; There is a fabulous team gathering, headed up by Rare Air Flyers and a Mum of one of the charity’s riders walking the Parish Walk for the charity this year.
The charity is always looking for sponsorship for it’s riding projects and to be able to keep competing.
