McCanney is Back

Danny McCanney made his return to the World Enduro paddock at the weekend for the first time in two years.

McCanney, with his ever patient fiancee Steph in tow, raced at the World Enduro GP round in Wales at the weekend.

After a glittering professional career which included winning two Junior World Enduro Championships and countless podiums at world level McCanney backed away from the sport a few years ago to spend more time with his young family.

Danny assured me, that his return for the world round in Wales was for “one event only”, we will see how long that lasts…

One Race Only

He retired professionally at the end of 2022, after 11 years contesting the World Championship.

Danny said: “I’ve not done much riding at all this year so was way underprepared but wanted to do the one in Wales for a one off, and celebrate winning the junior world championship I won 10 years ago so replicated my bike.”

Although McCanney “really enjoyed it” he says he struggled with the speeds.

He said: “Your head can still think it can go as fast as it used to, but my body certainly isn’t as agile!”

During the weekend he started to feel glimpses of his old self and finished 45 seconds from the E3 podium on Sunday (August 4) and finished 20th overall.

He placed 6th in his class on Saturday (August 5) and 21st overall.

EnduroGP

Paulo Duarte FIM EnduroGP World Championship made its return to Welsh soil for the Foresiteservices GP of in Rhayader last week.

Daniel said: “I had so much fun returning to the world enduro paddock, so good to see friends I’ve not seen in the paddock for nearly 2 years.

“The buzz was unreal and a huge well done to the club for organising such a great event, great to see so many people cheering me on.”

Daniel thanked everyone for their help over the week and the weekend, saying theres too many to name, but “it was a huge help”.

McCanney’s next stop is VMXDN Foxhills at the end of August.
