Ramsey was touted as a strong constituency throughout this election campaign, with issues such as wind farms and the port facilities fielded well by candidates during live debates. With Dr Alex Allinson not standing, it was guaranteed that at least one of the northern town’s representatives would be a first-timer.
As it transpired, Lawrie Hooper (Liberal Vannin) failed to regain his seat, and both Juan McGuinness and Robert Cowell will enter the House of Keys as new members.
Scores on the Doors
McGuinness was the clear winner, beating out fellow electee Cowell by 308 votes, totting up 1,703 to the latter’s 1,395. Peter Whiteway made a charge in third, missing out by 177 votes with a tally of 1,218, and Hooper finished in fourth with a total of 489, 1,168 votes fewer than the figure which saw him elected in 2021.
