The Island’s Memory Service has been awarded full national accreditation following an external review carried out in June 2025, the Health and Social Care Minister has confirmed.
Responding to a written question from Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse, Minister Claire Christian said the assessment was completed through the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ Memory Services National Accreditation Programme, which benchmarks services against recognised standards of clinical care and patient experience.
The review highlighted strong patient and carer feedback, describing staff as kind, responsive and supportive, with a seamless pathway from assessment through to end‑of‑life care.
The team’s ability to adapt to small‑island challenges, including accompanying patients off‑island for scans, was also praised.
Areas for development included strengthening staff wellbeing support, expanding research participation, improving accessibility for marginalised groups, and increasing dementia‑specific equality and inclusion training.
The report also encouraged more structured involvement of patients and carers in service development.
Manx Care has an action plan in place to address these recommendations, with the next formal accreditation review scheduled for June 2028.
